Top Ten Books I've Read So Far This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Hey, guys! Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday. This week's topic is "Top Ten Books I've Read So Far This Year." I have a few things to say before we get into this. First of all, you may know that I'm not the fastest reader out there. In fact, I believe I've only read 20 books so far this year. It's sort of embarrassing and shameful.. but reading anything is better than nothing! Because of this, I'm going to be doing a top five rather than top ten. I also want to say that unlike my other TTT posts, this one will be in order. I'm going to start at number ten and work my way down to the number one book I've read so far this year. With all that said, let's get into it!

5. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I did it, guys. Finally, I listened to the audio book of TFIOS last month. I am so, so happy that I finally joined the John Green party. This book made me reevaluate life and things I take for granted. It made me look at the world differently and provoked thoughts in me that no book has before. I knew what to expect going into this book, but all of those expectations were blown out of the water in comparison to what I actually experienced. I haven't seen the movie yet, unfortunately. I think I'm doing that next week. I'm stocking up on tissues already because I've heard the movie is a fantastic adaptation.

4. The Archived by Victoria Schwab - Oh, yes. This book was so great. I think the main aspect of The Archived that really sucked me in was the atmosphere. The darkness and mysteriousness that Victoria Schwab effortlessly weaved into this novel is infectious and VERY much my style. The Archived is about a girl named Mackenzie who's family moves into a new apartment complex at the start of the Summer. Very soon into the book, we find out that Mackenzie is a Keeper. She's made to find and stop awakened Histories from getting out into our world. It's hard to summarize this book without explaining too much of the plot, but just know that it's fantastic and I LOVED the characters. Especially Wes.

3. Hexed by Michelle Krys - THIS BOOK. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted this to be #3 or #2 and that's saying something considering how much I love Miss Peregrine's. Anyway, I really adored Hexed. It's actually released today (June 10), so go pick it up! If you like witches, mysterious beginnings, or books that are set in L.A. you'll definitely enjoy this book. The story follows Indie, a high schooler with a mostly perfect life. She's a cheer leader, best friends with the head cheer leader, dating the star football-player and getting through her high school career rather unscathed. Indie's main struggles in life revolve around her off-kilter, wicca-practicing mother who owns an occult shop and avoiding her nerdy, neighbor/childhood best friend, Paige. Her life seems pretty typical until one day she sees a guy die right in front of her-- we're talking blood, unconsciousness, the whole shebang. Indie's life is turned upside down when she's suddenly thrust head-first into the world of witches and sorcerers. There's never a dull moment in this book. It's constant action and not a chapter goes by when something significant doesn't take place. Also, I want to mention that if you liked Wes in The Archived, you will like Bishop in Hexed. They're very similar and I'm VERY okay with it. I rated this 5 stars and I plan on posting my review this coming Monday.

2. Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs - Ahh, Miss Peregrine's. What can I even say about this book? To be honest, this was probably the book that brought me into the blogoshpere. I was reading this when I started my blog and it was the first book I reviewed here. I just love everything about this story. I love each and every character. There are so many people to include, and yet Ransom Riggs manages to give them all enough attention and depth. I LOVED the story. I loved the suspense and the love story aspect of it. I just loved each and every thing about this book and I'm so angry at myself for still not yet having read Hollow City. I plan to do that in the VERY near future. But, in the meantime, I know that this book was one of my all-time favorites and it's earned it's spot as my number 2 book of the year thus far.

1. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer - I'm cheating and lumping these into one because HOW COULD I NOT?! If you know me at all you will know that I adored this series. I loved each and every book in this series. I liked each book more than the last, but rated all three of these books 5 stars. If you are living under a rock and haven't read The Lunar Chronicles yet, it's a series of fairy tale re-tellings with a sci-fi twist. Each book follows a new main character (and potential, new love interest) as well as the characters from the book(s) prior. If you enjoy fairy tale re-tellings, sci-fi, or even just YA READ THESE BOOKS NOW. They are phenomenal and you will not regret picking them up.

  2. Yay for the Lunar Chronicles - I haven't read Cress yet, but I loved both Cinder and Scarlet (Cinder made my top 10 list this week). I think I have an e-book copy of Hexed but I just haven't got around reading it yet.

  6. First, reading should be about enjoyment or taking something away - not a number to compare to others!
Cress made my list as well - I've read all three this year and enjoyed them all --- but as with any series, usually the most recent is my most favorite with all the story progression. Here's my list:
