Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week's Top Ten Tuesday theme is "popular authors I've never read." This should be exciting because there are quite a lot of popular authors who's works I've never read. Most of this list will probably consist of authors who I intend to read in the semi-near future. And, I probably will have at least one book by most of these authors. Alright, now that all that chit-chat is out of the way, let's jump right into things.

This list is in no particular order.

  1. Patrick Ness - I recently bought A Monster Calls and The Knife of Never Letting Go on Amazon. I plan on reading them very, very soon because I have a feeling I'm going to LOVE his books.
  2. Victoria Shwab - If you haven't heard, JesseTheReader from YouTube is hosting a read-a-long this month for The Archived. I've been wanting to read this book for a little while now and I can't wait to get into it this month. If you would like to join the read-a-long or just get the information on it, here's a link to the GoodReads group.
  3. Jane Austen - I know, I know. Everyone who knows anything about classics just adores Jane Austen. I'm sure I'd be no different, I just haven't gotten around to purchasing any of her works. I don't even know where to start with her. Which book would be the best to read first?
  4. Rainbow Rowell - This one is simply tragic. I own Fangirl and Attachments, but have yet to delve into either book. I KNOW I will love her books just as everyone else does, but I just need the right time to arise where I can read and love them.
  5. Tahereh Mafi - Shock and awe! I know. Shun me. I've yet to pick up the Shatter Me series (which is, like, a sin because I'm basically obsessed with Ransom Riggs.) I'm positive that I will eventually read her books. I know she's a great, hilarious, amazing person, so I don't know what's stopping me from getting my hands on her books.
  6. Stephanie Perkins - This one kind of goes along with number 4 (at least in my head that makes sense) because they're contemporary authors. I think that's the main reason I haven't read any Stephanie Perkins. But, I have a feeling I'll be journeying into contemporary land in the very near future especially because Becca (PivotBookReviews) is AMAZING and sent me Anna and the French Kiss in the mail.
  7. J. R. R. Tolkien - I own The Hobbit. Hell, when I was younger I was in a stage play of The Hobbit. I really, really feel like I need to read even just that one book to have my J. R. R. Tolkien itch scratched. The whole high fantasy, fantastical world thing is a little new to me, but I really know I would enjoy the LOTR series.
  8. Brandon Sanderson - I'm not particularly ashamed about this one, yet. I'm more disappointed in myself because of all the good things and hype I've heard about this author. I saw his newest book (I think??) today at Barnes and Noble and the cover was GORGEOUS. I just have this urge to read his books, but.. clearly I haven't done that yet. Unfortunately.
  9. Markus Zusak - I know, I know. This is another bad one. (Wait til you see number 10) I know everyone loves The Book Thief, but-- I don't know. I'm not particularly drawn to books dealing with history and I haven't had that "Oh my god, I need to read it now!" moment yet. Again, I'm sure I'll read his books eventually as well. We'll see. We'll see.
  10. John Green - This is the big one.. Oh, boy. YES! I admit it. I have never read a John Green book. *hides* Listen, I have every intention of eventually reading a John Green book. I loved the guy before I even knew he was an author! Nerdfighters forever! But, I haven't read TFiOS for whatever reason. And, something deep inside of me is telling me that that should not be the first John Green novel I read. If you know my reading tastes at all, do you have any advice on which one I should read first? I'll admit I'm not 100% familiar with the plots of all of his books. Let me know in the comments if you have any ideas for this one. I'd really love your advice!
Are you appalled by any of my unread authors? Any books I NEED to read right this minute? Let me know in the comments please, please, please because I need to be bullied into reading more good books!

  1. Apparently there are lots of us that are admitting we haven't read John Green! You're not alone.

But seriously, you know how much I love me some Rainbow Rowell. I think you'd love Stephanie Perkins books as well!

  2. I hated that stupid Book Thief with the fire of a million suns. One of the most massively overrated books of recent years. I felt so validated when I read all the well-written negative reviews at Amazon and Goodreads.

I've read Jane Austen and Tolkien, though I never finished The Hobbit or Emma. The only John Green I read was Will Grayson, Will Grayson, which was required in the GLTB unit of my YA Lit class. I didn't warm to his style, and far preferred the chapters by David Levithan.

  5. I have not read majority of these as well. I loved Green and Ness, and Tolkien is great too, though I still have to read LotR. I know... :X
I was kinda let down my Mafi though.
    Happy reading!

  6. I've read a few of these others (loved some, disliked some) and I'm in the process of reading another (Brandon Sanderson), but there are are couple who definitely made it onto my list.

Also, I didn't realize I was supposed to be reading Victoria Shwab until I noticed that a lot of people were admitting on this week's list that they hadn't. I guess I should add her to my TBR...

    My list.

  7. Patick Ness made my list as well. :/ I also would love to read Brandon Sanderson but I just haven't gotten around to it.

I hope you have fun participating in The Archived read along by Schwab and enjoy it. It's a pretty good book, very unique!
