Top Ten Tuesday is here again and I'm REALLY excited about this week! The topic is any variation of the title you see above; "The Top Ten Book Cover Trends I Like/Dislike." I have a lot of opinions on book covers and I'm someone who really enjoys discussing cover art and all that fun stuff! I'm also really excited because I'm writing this on Thursday night AKA the night after the night my power was out for SIX HOURS. So, let's just say I'm ecstatic to have the ability to even write up this post right now. Let's not even wait any longer! Here are some of my favorite and not-so-favorite cover trends!

I also hate the overly sexual covers. Not only is it uncomfortable to look at, but it's also become boring and cliché.

I love gloomier looking covers too but in complete contrast I love overly bright covers as well. Great choices!
ReplyDeleteOh we have quite a different taste in covers! I don't care for covers with faces, and yawn at the pretty-dresses-on-the-cover and smokey/watery/floaty cover hypes. I do love typography and gloomy covers :D!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the dystopian covers, although lately all of them are starting to look a bit too much like Divergent...
Yes yes yes to gloomier looking covers! I'm also glad I'm not the only person who likes pretty dresses! And I 100% agree on disliking overly sexual covers. Ugh!

I do love illustrations and pretty typography! Faces and dresses can go either way for me. I generally dislike romance-y covers. Great list!

I agree with faces gone bad. When Vampire Academy originally came out I never picked it up because the cover bugged me too much.

I have to admit that a lot of my dislikes are on your likes list. I just think a lot of trends are so overdone that they are getting a bit boring - pretty dresses especially. It takes a really special cover for me to love it - like The Jewel or The Winner's Curse. Overly romantic/sexual covers really bug me, would not want to be seen reading a book with a cover like that.
